Well, this Patrick Blindauer puzzle was lots of fun.

8A. Source of all the tender words in this puzzle? (DOLLAR)

It was in the shape of a dollar bill and had many of the elements of the back of a bill show up in the appropriates places.

There was a ONE in each corner:

1A. Blood type, briefly (ONEG)

17A. The “Z” of DMZ (ZONE)

64A. Ryan of Love Story (ONEAL)

68A. Lorna of fiction (DOONE)

And the other elements:

26A. 8-Across issuer (THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA)

35A. Motto of 26-Across found on the 8-Across (IN GOD WE TRUST)

53A. Symbol of 26-Across found on the 8-Across (GREAT SEAL)

58A. Symbol of 26-Across found on the 8-Across (BALD EAGLE)

This was all surprisingly involved for a Monday but the general difficulty was still appropriate for the beginning of the week.

The nerd quotient was quite high.  Always nice to see.

61A. What gave the Hulk his powers (GAMMA RAYS).  You ever see that Simpsons where they find out the origin of Radioactive Man?  He’s exposed to radioactivity and he says something like, “Ah…becoming…radioactive.”  And Millhouse’s reaction is, “So that’s how it happened.”

5D. Dragon’s ___ (early video game).  This was so cool when it came out in the arcade.  Looking back it seems a little silly but at the time it was absolutely cutting edge.

18D. ___-Wan Kenobi (OBI).  Why does George Lucas hate his fans?  Explain.  It also turns out that Star Wars fans hate Star Wars.

Great puzzle, Patrick.

And it seems appropriate that I should end this post with a money shot.

Next stop, Tuesday.
