I was going to post an opinion on Pete Rose, but I realized that being a Mets fan (and therefore loosely associated with the Mets), if I do I will likely pull a hamstring or something, and be out of action for the next month.

Oh well, here goes. Pete Rose, great player, amazing work ethic, stellar stats - but a slippery slope to the HOF.

I think I hurt my spleen.

Joon is right -- knowing Byron's middle name doesn't do anything to change your own soubriquet.

I see your point, Joon, but I dislike CARB as a singular in the same way.

This is not quite as serious as when Ryan refers to a singular circle used to designate direction within an automobile as \"STEERING WHEELS\" -- but it's close.

Nice theme for a Monday puzzle. And I have heard the term CONSERVATIVE TIE.

Now, as for Pete Rose, my vote is yes -- he deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame! I believe Pete Rose belongs in the HOF for a number of reasons:
(1) He has more career hits than any other player
(2) He has played more games than any other player
(3) He played 5 different positions (1B,LF,3B,2B,RF) in his career, each position at 500+ games!
(4) I've haven't seen any player play with more intensity than Rose
(5) He has a lifetime batting average > .300
(6) He appeared in 17 All-Star games
(7) Most importantly - He was instrumental in helping the Phillies win their first World Series in 1980. (He also helped the Reds to two WS titles).
(8) Okay, so he bet on baseball. That was certainly deplorable, but it's not like he intentionally lost a game -- he bet on his team to win, for crying out loud! I think that is much less of an offense than taking steroids... which he didn't. I think he's paid his debt.

If anyone deserves to be in the HOF - it is Rose.

That was in Pandamonium.

That 3:21 worries me. I had 3:33 in AcrossLite. If you keep that up, I'm posting guards at the border to keep you out of the Foreign division.

that wouldn't be reflected in your nickname, at least not according to precedent. it would be reflected in byron "mike nothnagel and amy reynaldo know my middle name" walden's nickname.

anyway, "panda" is pretty cute. how about "panda bout town"? i guess that makes no sense but it makes me giggle. {City where bamboo eaters tilted?}?

Is "Panda" my brand-new R&B nickname? I know Byron's middle name too, but I don't need that reflected in my nickname.

3:21 on the applet?!? That is definitely E-division champion excellence.

i think STEROID in the singular is fine. decadurabolin is a STEROID. i think (grammatically) it's kind of like CARB(ohydrate). most of the time you're talking about CARBS, plural, but you could also say something like "bread is a CARB."

i think ARB is in much more common use than the full "arbitrageur," just like PERK is common and "perquisite" is very rare. it seems much worse if you think of it as an abbreviation for a very rare word, but the abbreviation itself isn't so rare.

Your description sounds totally whiz-like.

The word \"arbitrageur\" (and the random abbreviation for it) don't seem very Monday-like.

ARB could be "arbitrageur", someone who does arbitrage ("the practice of taking advantage of a price differential between two or more markets") which seems kind of whiz-like to me
