Brian’s Puzzle #4: Five Plus

September 12, 2009 By: Brian Category: Brian's puzzles 6 Comments →

Here’s my latest effort, a 13×13 grid containing words of five or more letters. No fours, no threes. I tried to do this in a 15×15, and it just never seemed to work out well.

Brian’s Puzzle #3: Four-Plus

September 12, 2009 By: Brian Category: Brian's puzzles 13 Comments →

Here’s another effort at a new puzzle. As an exercise, I tried to make a grid that didn’t have any three-letter words. It’s otherwise themeless, but I liked making myself a restriction.

It’s a first draft, so any comments and thoughts are totally welcome. Also, I did a lot of revising on not a lot of sleep, so there’s bound to be typos, errors, repeated strings, things that flat out don’t work — just let me know in the comments or via email.

Thanks! Enjoy!

A new puzzle by Brian: Stephen Sondheim quote puzzle

August 31, 2009 By: Brian Category: Brian's puzzles 4 Comments →

I know we’re still working out the kinks of posting our own puzzles, and we don’t really have a “syst” in place quite yet. Nonetheless, I made this one tonight, and wanted to put it out there for anyone who cared to try it.

I don’t generally like quote puzzles, but I thought I’d try my hand at making one. This is a Stephen Sondheim quote. For all I know, this quote has been done before, but whatever — I haven’t made a puzzle out of it before, so it’s new to me.

I’ve got this for you in PUZ and PDF formats. Beware — it’s an irregular size. Oh, and also beware — I have done almost zero fact-checking, grammar-editing or proof-reading. This is a first draft.

Puzzle 1: Starter Home

August 26, 2009 By: Brian Category: Brian's puzzles 6 Comments →

We’re trying out some new things — this post, for example. We’re playing with constructing some puzzles of our own, and posting them on the site from time to time. The puzzle below is one I designed over a year ago, and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Anyway. If you like the idea of us making some new puzzles from time to time, say so. If you think the idea sucks, say so. If you think this puzzle in particular sucks, say so. I certainly don’t think it’s anything special. My grade: “Meh.”
